Champlin Park's baseball team got off to a great start on a rainy Monday afternoon, scoring three runs in the first inning and one more in the second to take a 4-0 lead over Centennial.
The Cougars answered with two runs in the third inning, but starting pitchers Kyle Nordby of Centennial and Aaron Kloeppner of Champlin Park settled down after some tough early innings.
Kloeppner carried a 4-2 lead into the seventh, but down to their last out the Cougars rallied. Dylan Hagen's liner past third base scored a run to make it 4-3, and Jordan Ewings came through with a big blast. Ewings hit a two-run homer to rightfield to put the Cougars in front 5-4.
Champlin Park made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases before the Cougars escaped with the win to keep their Northwest Suburban Conference title hopes alive.
